Effects of Illegal Music Downloading on the Music Industry free essay sample

Music Industry Illegal downloading is commonly known as piracy, it describe that the steeling music from artists, songwriters, musicians, record label employees and others whose hard work and great talent who make music possible. Nowadays, downloading music is available for everyone on internet. However, it is still illegal. Downloading music on internet is what most people are doing because they do not have to pay, and they can choose only the songs they want to have.Unlike CDC which we have the whole album which might contain the songs that we do not want to listen to, plus we have to pay for it. However, it is not always a good thing, it might be good for the people who download the music, but what about the music industry? Is it killing the industry, or does it have profits on it? This paper will discuss both pros and cons of piracy downloading on the Music Industry. One of the most important influences that internet piracy has had on the music industry Is the sale of retail CDC. Until the past few years, CD sales were one of the key things that music Industry Insiders used In order to find out which musicians and albums were the most popular with the public. As the worlds technology has been growing, it made the digital music and internet piracy growing too, sales of retail CDC dropped amongst younger consumers to such an extent that the best selling CDC on the market began to bear very little resemblance to the music that was actually popular with the young listeners that form the backbone of the music Industry. For example, Bob Dylan album Modern Times quickly became the number one best seller when It was released In 2006, spite the fact that none of his tracks were highly requested on mainstream radio programs or popular with younger listeners. The most well-known case that involves internet piracy and the music industry was when a group of m ajor recording companies took peer-to-peer file sharing service Anapest to court for facilitating copyright infringement In the year 2000. After the Increasing of the Internet piracy, A;M Records and other record companies sued Anapest on three separate claims, and It was successful. These claims Included accusations that Anapest was espouse for allowing users to infringe upon existing copyrights and were even encouraging users to download unlicensed copyrighted materials. When the recording industry won this landmark lawsuit, Anapest stopped offering their file sharing services to users, and soon their company failed. The Institute for Policy Innovation make a conclusion that global music piracy causes $12. 5 billion of earnings, and a loss of $422 million in tax revenues, $291 million in personal income tax and $131 million in lost corporate income and production taxes.Today, cost people who download music illegally do it by using new peer-to-peer networks like Bitterroot. The Bitterroot protocol is for of handling a lot of data very quickly and is very popular for people who upload and download copies of movies and television programs that have no license. In more recent years, dozens of major record labels torrent in order to distribute their content on their own terms and avoid the pirating of their content. The Institute for Policy Innovation concludes that global music piracy causes $12. 5 billion of economic losses every year, 71,060 U. S. Jobs lost, ass of $2. Billion in workers earnings, and a loss of $422 million in tax revenues, $291 million in personal income tax and $131 million in lost corporate income and production taxes. However, there are some profits that the music industries get from the music piracy. One of it is that older music is still available. Because of the way contracts are constructed, artists do not own their own music-record labels do. So when artists that change labels, their new label is not allowed to produce the albums the artist made on the old label, and if the old label decides not to release he songs, the music is dead.Music downloading is the only way for people to access these old dead songs. It can also make the artists still be famous over time because people still listen to their music even if they are obsolete. Another positive thing is that the not well-known artists become more famous, and their music albums also have better sales. 81. 87% of the entire music industry was controlled by 4 record companies. But most artists arent signed to these labels. As the results, most artists do not get radio play, and their music videos are usually in low quality and they are to usually shown on the television.Music downloading is great for lesser known artists to get the chance to be more famous. Most people wont buy music they have not listened to. Music Piracy allows people who download music to experiment the unknown artists. This kind of experimentation cannot hurt the industry, it helps the Industry instead. As people would not have bought the music if they cannot download it, but downloading and having the music may either make them realize they like the music, and buy the albums, or share the music to their friends, who then eight like the music, and by the album, or even go to the concert. These smaller, independent artists have been on the rise in the past several years, and they also make profits to their industry. According to the ARIA, only 15% of albums make money. However, most record label contracts require that all costs for making the album be returned to the company, meaning that 85% of artists are in debt to their company after the records are released. Most artists repay this debt through money they got during concerts. And people who found out the artists through piracy may like the music enough to go to the concerts. The ARIA Consumer Profile in 2005 showed that CD sales at concerts have risen, it came from more people that go to Join the concerts and more people that Join these concerts do not own these CDC; both of this all came from online music downloading. From my experiences, I usually download music from internet, and when there is some artist I really like, I will become their fans and buy their albums. It also makes me know more artists that I never know of, and that is how it makes them famous. Iris is not Just happening to me, it also happens to most of my friends. These facts rove that the music downloading is not all bad, but it might be to some music industries which are not so famous Even if music Piracy is illegal, it is very hard for someone to control or forbid people from doing it. It becomes part of the music society, everyone downloads music from internet. Some people do not even know anything. However, it is also a good thing it benefits many things, both to the consumers and the industries. It might be bad for the industry in few years ago, but now people start to get use to it and make profits from it. Artists actually get more famous from it.

Crime Victims and Justice

Question: Discuss about theCrime Victims and Justice. Answer: The aim is to determine the effectiveness of the Youth Justice Group Conferencing (YJGC) in providing effective diversions for the young people from the intense supervision of the courts outcome, reducing the seriousness and the frequency of again offending young people to provide victim satisfaction in relation to criminal justice process. In this assignment there is discussion on the strengths and weaknesses of the youth group conferencing. Advantages and the Disadvantages of Youth Group Conferencing Youth Group Conferencing is a police play an active role. There is a very brief span delay between offence and the conference (Johnstone 2013). No criminal charges are applicable at the diversion of the conference. At the same time there are certain cons with the diversion of the conference, the police are usually not well trained to indentify things in relation to imparting in formations to the offender or their family. The arrangements made are very limited to protect the offender and his rights. Another main disadvantage is that the person being arrested may also agree for the conference even though there in sufficient evidence (Zehr 2015). Another advantage that can be pointed out is the reduction in the net-widening as conferencing resulted in conviction. There were various improved mechanisms brought forward for the protection of the rights of the offender. Conferencing would aim to address the problems of the offender than provide the redress for the offence. On the other hand Van and Strong (2014) disadvantages lied in the amount of preparatory work that had to be done before the conferencing. Major delays were made in making arrangements for the conference which resulted in longer duration of time that arose between the offence and the disposition. Youth Group Conferencing has the following advantages, only few of the sexual assault cases are dealt within the criminal justice system. Youth Group Conferencing does not help those who do not report such issues. Some people do not report such issue due the impact it makes on their family. The rate of prosecutions is relatively less also the rate of convictions is usually less for the young offenders (Zehr 2015). Conferencing under this observes the need for retributions. Most of the time the criminal justice system fails to meets the needs of the victims. Conclusion Youth Group Conferencing has aimed at reducing the number of problems in Australia. Although, the solution to every problem is not mentioned in the Youth Group Conferencing. The Group Conferencing process is made to direct the issues that contribute to make the young offenders behaviour better and analyse the Juvenile Justice data to examine the outcome. The police and the court are purely responsible for the Conferencing process. Reference List: Johnstone, G. (2013).Restorative justice: Ideas, values, debates. Routledge. Van Ness, D. W., Strong, K. The business of water consumption Essay Example

The business of water consumption Essay In terms of the scholarly discussion on corporate social responsibility please outline the key arguments that may support the actions of the firms given in the case. Furthermore, discuss the main arguments against corporate social responsibility considering these firms’ actions. Use scholarly literature and examples from the case study to illustrate. Though water is considered as essential to survival of all life forms, getting access to quality water is increasingly becoming difficult in the under-developed world. While privatization is promoted as the solution for this crisis, previous examples of such a move have resulted in adverse results, especially for the poor. Where privatization of water has been implemented in the last 10 years, contentious debates and protestations have risen in the communities affected by the project. In the case study titled ‘The Business of Water’, we read about the activities of some of the major water and beverage companies in the world like Suez, Coca-Cola, Vivendi, etc. These companies have installed several plants in developing countries such as India, Philippines, Bolivia, Brazil, etc in the last 10-15 years. Though there are some benefits to the society, in terms of the availability of safe bottled drinking water and a better range of beverages, the communities surrounding the p lants have largely suffered as a result. In their defense, MNCs who’ve setup these plants cite various reasons behind their efforts. They point out how they bail-out financially stapped local administrative and public works bodies by putting forward a substantial amount of capital and investments. This in turn helps local municipalities to We will write a custom essay sample on The business of water consumption specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on The business of water consumption specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on The business of water consumption specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer â€Å"update the obsolete and decaying infrastructure of municipal water and sewer systems. By one federal estimate, it will require one trillion dollars over the next 20 years to replace aging sewer pipes and treatment plants. Second, many economists argue that private businesses are more cost-efficient and effective in providing services than the public sector. And third, in some quarters ideology favors downsizing government and outsourcing things to the private sector.† (Hale, 2006) Despite these advantages that are held up by pro-privatization lobbyists, the ground realities have not changed for much of the population in which these MNC’s operate. MNC’s are seen to be driven purely on profit motive and are accused of failing in Corporate Social Responsibility measure. The most publicized case in this respect is the conflict between Coca-Cola and local communities surrounding its plant in Palchimada, Kerala. The village of Palchimada is located in the South Indian state of Kerala and is chosen for its impressive groundwater reservoirs and healthy annual rainfalls. But, as it turned out, within a few years of the plant’s operation the water table fell by several tens of feet and it became very difficult for local farmers and villagers to fetch water. This is a clear case of an MNC undermining the interests of the society for the sake of its private gain. It is also an illustration of how vapid and meaningless claims of Corporate Social Respon sibility by MNCs turn out in reality. For progressive political leaders, incidents such as these across the Third World point to certain undeniable facts. They claim that MNCs exploit the dire economic situation of poor people. (Guislain, 1997) Joining ranks with MNCs are government officials, who pay scant respect to public welfare. These episodes have led some opponents of privatization, such as Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke, to draw a line in the sand, stating that â€Å"the move to commodify depleting global water supplies is wrong-ethically, environmentally, and socially. They think privatization of water resources allows allocation decisions to be made by corporations that desire to maximize profits and ignores the environmental and social consequences of water allocation policies. These companies, focused only on the bottom line, are unlikely to invest in new technology or water conservation. To Barlow and Clarke, privatization interferes with citizens’ ability to allocate and manage their own water, concentrates power in the hands of monopolist corporations, and makes it difficult for local governments to reclaim control over the water system.† (Luoma, 2005) References †¢ Glennon, R. The Ancient Myths about Athena

The Ancient Myths about Athena In his mythology (The Age of Fable: Vols. I II: Stories of Gods and Heroes. 1913), Thomas Bulfinch uses the Roman name Minerva for the Greek goddess Athena. Chapters from Bulfinch that Feature Athena: Chapter 14Arachne and the Weaving Contest With AthenaThe beginning of this chapter details Athenas skills, her special connection with Athens, and her birth from the head of her father Zeus. The chapter goes on to describe a contest between a mortal woman, Arachne, and Athena. It follows with another challenge made by a mortal against a goddess, but the goddess is not Athena.Chapter 15MedusaBulfinch has already identified Athena in the previous chapter, so in this one, Athena is introduced as the goddess challenged by Medusa to a beauty contest. Regardless of who was more beautiful, Athena had to punish Medusa, which she did by turning her into a monster. Then, when the hero Perseus goes off to slay the monster, Athena comes to his assistance by lending him her shield the one he uses as a mirror so he can decapitate without being turned to stoneChapter 30Odysseus and AthenaIn this chapter, Bulfinch is describing the adventures of Odysseus. Odysseus has returned to Ithaca but doesnt recognize it until Athena in disguise tells him where he is. The chapter describes Odysseus return to his home where he finds and eventually slays the suitors who have been harassing his wife. Elsewhere in Bulfinch, Athena plays minor roles: Chapter 16Athena invents thunderbolts and deals with the winged horse Pegasus.Chapter 20Theseus blames Athena for abandoning Ariadne and sets up the Panathenaea to honor her.Chapter 2Here Athena helps Prometheus steal fire to give to mankind.Chapter 19Athena and Hermes accompany Hercules to the Underworld.Chapter 7In this chapter, Bulfinch invents a conversation between Aphrodite and her son in which she names Athena as one who defies her.

Contract Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Contract Assignment - Essay Example With at least two forms –the vendors and the purchasers—vying for legal standing the courts find themselves adjudicating a battle of the forms. They must determine what form applies, if any, or, alternately, that neither form applies and by default, a given contractual dispute must be resolved by recourse to the Sale of Goods Act rather than by the terms and conditions set out by either firm. (â€Å"Sale of Goods Act C. 54† 1979) his was the judgement that the court arrived at in â€Å"GHSP INC v. AB ELECTRONIC LTD† [2010] EWHC 1828 (Comm) Case No: 2008 Folio 1353. Neither the form of the seller AB Electronic Ltd. nor that of the purchaser, GHSP Inc. was held to be valid In lieu of a specific contract the court relied on the â€Å"Sale of Goods Act, 1979†. This issue is of considerable importance for both buyers and sellers. Understandably, the sellers standard form will contain terms that are beneficial to the seller while the purchasers form will favour the purchasers interests. Often the determination of which contract is applicable will resolve the dispute, implicitly, in favour of the party whose contract is accepted by the courts. It is for this reason that a battle of the forms can have such great importance. For more than thirty years the courts have relied on Butler Machine Tool Company Ltd. v. EX-CELL-O Corporation (England) Limited† [1977] EWCA Civ 9 Case No. 172 B. No. 234 when confronted with a battle of the forms. Briefly, Butler contracted to produce a production machine for EX-CELL-O Corp. They produced a contract for production of said machine with a price, terms and delivery details. EX-CELL-O responded with acceptance of the price on their own form that contained different details, particularly as they related to additional costs incurred prior to their receipt of the machine. Butlers contract contained a clause allowing them to charge any price increases

Describe one social work method and how you could use it in practice Essay

Describe one social work method and how you could use it in practice - Essay Example Social case work is identified as a form of ‘one to one relationship’ based on which social workers make efforts in terms of understanding the factors resulting to complications within human lives (Sajid, 2012; Schwartz & et. al., 1975; Richmond, 1922). In this context, to adopt social case work in practice, I would perform social case work with the assistance of social workers in the community. The practice of social case work would be based on certain procedure that include assessment, study, evaluation and application of appropriate procedures based on which social case work activities are to be conducted. Additionally, the practice of social case work should be conducted in accordance with guiding principles and standards that include ethical values and knowledge among others (National Association of Social Workers, 2013; Perlman, 1957; NCBI, n.d.). It can be comprehended that social case work acts as a comprehensive tool in terms of developing the overall situation of individuals having difficulties in aligning with surrounding environment both in terms of physical and social perspective. In this regard, the practice of social case work is required to be conducted on the basis of certain procedure, so that care and treatment is offered appropriately. LinkedIn Corporation, 2014.
